It's all change in the world of wills


New legislation has just hit the statute book - and there is nothing more exciting than a new bit a legislation for the legal eagles amongst us. But before you hit the right click and delete this - best that you cast your eye over the changes - they could have significant changes if you are not seeing eye to eye with your other half!


  1. Former spouse or civil partner can no longer inherit under an existing will following a divorce - previously the person that you were once betrothed to still had a right to your estate if that was what was stated in the will!

  2. Survivorship destination contained within title deeds which automatically transfer titles to the survivor to be revoked on divorce - once again if you forgot to change your titles once you had received the decree nisi then you former beloved spouse could scoop the house!

  3. No need to get an insurance policy - Bond of Caution for small estates - more money for the beneficiaries as there is no need to get an expensive policy.

  4. And an odd one where if both died simultaneously, the old law said that the younger died last but now they die at the same time potentially making significant changes
